First thing everyone will have to admit is the name of the
author plays a major role in getting many people to buy a book. These authors
have worked hard and deserve to be rewarded. Other than that, I thought it
would be interesting to see what others aspects the current best sellers share.
In THE TARGET by David Baldacci we have a President who
turns to two professional assassins who can stop a major menace that threatens
the world, a big picture thriller.
In contrast we have I’VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN by Mary Higgins
Clark, where the author brings the terror down to a deep personal fear of
losing your child, and that is after losing your own life, making it impossible
to be there to provide any protection.
Next, you have MOTHER’S DAY OUT by Karen MacInerney, which
is more of an amateur sleuth who attempts to become a professional, but has a
mixture of comedy relief in still a book full of deep thrills and several unsolved
mysteries.
Another favorite area for thriller writers is the rich and
famous, which is what Stuart Wood writes in his novel CARNAL CURIOSITY, bringing
back one of his best characters, Stone Barrington into action to solve crimes
involving the super rich in NYC and exploiting their own secrets against them.
In G. M. Ford’s book, CHUMP CHANGE, we have another private
detective searching for answers to the death of a millionaire who has a past
connection with the detective.
Additionally, you have Greg Iles new book, NATCHEZ BURNING,
where you have a legal thriller set in the deep south and a small town
confrontation with its notorious past involving the kkk.
Therefore in conclusion as to what makes the best thrillers
and mystery books currently on the market you have to look at one main clue–each
writer makes their book stand out and different from everyone else. All of
these books are totally unique. Each takes you into a new world that has to be
explored, and one that only this author can deliver.
